Water Management and Western Water Network Workshop

This free workshop will focus on practical water management and conservation strategies for row crops, orchards, and horticultural crops, as well as crop diversification for semi-arid cropping systems. Participants will learn about the Western Water Network (WWN) and its efforts to connect Extension professionals, researchers, producers, and communities to address water management challenges across the western USA. Past Events

Evapotranspiration (ET) for Irrigation Management. August 5th & 6th, 2026, NMSU Campus, Las Cruces, NM.
In this 2-day short-course, participants will learn how to: interpret key weather and crop factors that influence water use; estimate reference ET and crop ET using climate data, Kc, and spreadsheet-based tools; apply basic quality-control procedures to climate station data used for ET calculations; develop basic ET-based irrigation schedules, and more. 
Biochar, Soil Health, and Water Systems Workshop, May 6, 2026, 8am-12pm, Leyendecker Agricultural Science Research Center, Las Cruces, NM
In this free, hands-on workshop, attendees will follow the complete biochar-making process from start to finish and observe soil health practices in the field. Additionally, participants will learn about the Resilient Agricultural Water Community Systems (RAWCS) project, which focuses on developing innovative water and land management initiatives to enhance thriving agriculture in the western USA:

This hands-on course covers soil-water relationships, ET-based irrigation scheduling, climate data use, FAO CROPWAT, and practical field demonstrations.
